I am running Win7 on my main box and I’ve been very troubled with the stability (if you’ve been to one of my classes recently, you know what I mean). The biggest trouble has been the startup time…sometimes Visual Studio will just timeout before IE launches. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong and was hoping that moving to IE8 RTW would help.
For the slow launch problem, I saw this post by Ruurd Boeke that had two suggestions. The first one (that requires you to regsvr32 a specific dll) fixed the startup for me…completely! It looks like it fixes the stability under the debugger too!
My other hang-up is getting IE8 RTW to install on Win7. Unfortunately there is no fix here. We just have to wait for the RC of Win7 before that’s possible (though the rumors are saying May).
One out of two ain’t bad though, right?
